CETMA COMPOSITES

COMPANY PROFILE

Cetma Composites is born of the experience of expert researchers into advanced materials,  with long-standing expertise and experience established working for Consorzio Cetma (Avanced research centre focused in several national and European projects since 1994) and for prestigious European research facilities. Cetma Composites is specialized in the production of technological intensive composite components , providing  an answer to the needs of automotive, aeronautic and sport sectors. Cetma Composites is  the first European company able to combine basic and applied research, for the development of high-tech products.

Cetma Composites employs internationally reputable researchers with PhD on composite materials with experience collected in prestigious European centers.  Let’s have a look to few numbers: founding researchers of Cetma Composites can boast more than 200 papers on scientific journals, more than 100 presences to national and international congresses, more than 20 patents and registered models.

Cetma Composites designs and produces carbon fins: CETMA COMPOSITES’s carbon fins are one of the most important innovations in the sport sector, because of the way they are designed and manufactured. Cetma Composites’s carbon fins are designed by materials engineers with long-standing recognized experience in the design and manufacturing of carbon-reinforced components for aeronautic, aerospace and automotive sectors. For the first time fins are designed according to the “engineered stiffness  distribution” principle, an engineering method  which is to modulate the stiffness with the aim to deform the blade in the most effective manner.
Cetma Composites’s engineers uses this methodology for the first time: all the blades commercially available are realized without considering this important innovation. Moreover Cetma Composites uses for its production highly innovative and secret processes, developed in years of research focused on composite materials. And that is why  Cetma Composites decided to give a boost to the freediving sector applying exclusive competences traditionally used in more advanced sector (aerospace, aeronautic, nautical, automotive) with outstanding results.

Cetma Composites’s carbon blades are a key turning point offering to the end-users an exclusive know-how and the more advanced technologies, certified by several publications in scientific international journals and patents. For the design of the carbon blades Cetma Composites’s engineers use the physical and mechanical properties of composite materials, obtained by means of 1000-1500 tensile, compression, shear, fatigue tests, that are necessary and are to be repeated for each prepreg type. The design can be carried out once the mechanical properties are available, and Cetma Composites uses finite element modelling (FEM) for a best optimization of the blades performance. Cetma Composites’s carbon blades are manufactured using exclusive materials: hot melt aeronautic prepreg characterized by a resin formulated with a secret recipe, developed by the engineers of Cetma Composites, that can not be copied: in fact the use of nano-particles of a toughener substance dispersed in the resin increases the life of the blades. The use of this tough material, together with the FEM modelling, allows to reduce the stress concentration in the blade. Moreover different high performance fibers are used for the prepreg, like for example Japanes Toho-Tenax and Toray fibers.

That’s why Cetma composites fins are so innovative: Cetma Composites’s fins have everything they need to obtain great results, and great fun, for both freediving and spearfishing. Who tried Cetma Composites fins reported extreme comfort feeling during swimming but also a high responsiveness when required, as during detaching from the bottom.

These feelings are due to the design of Cetma Composites’s fins, because the engineered stiffness distribution maximize the performance during blade deformation, and provide a propulsive thrust higher than for other carbon blades, for the same energy applied. The energy losses due to the incorrect water channeling and to the excess of the rubber for the waterails are reduced to a minimum.
